Blade: A Motorcycle Club Romance (Devil’s Fangs MC)

An unexpected baby motorcycle club romance.

  VENUS

My dad dragged me into this underworld of bikers and blood, gangs and gore.

I thought he was the devil.

Then he sold me to some bad men on the worst night of my life.

And I realized… my time in hell was just beginning.

Blade is a growling, tattooed menace.

But he’s the only chance I have of surviving this chaos.

All I have to do is keep my mouth shut and my mind occupied.

He’s making that awfully hard though.

Because the president of the Devil’s Fangs MC is sinfully cruel and deliciously dominant.

  He’s everything I shouldn’t want… and everything I ever needed.

Besides, weren’t rules meant to be broken?

  BLADE

  She doesn’t belong here.

My world is far too dangerous for an innocent thing like her.

And I’m the most dangerous thing in it.

  Touching her is wrong.

  Claiming her is worse.

But I did both, and now I’m stuck with the consequences:

  Her dad in a frenzy.

  Her gang on the warpath.

  And, worst of all…

  My baby in her womb.

“You okay?” Venus turned to Vixen, noticing the distant look in her best friend’s eyes. They’d known each other for so long, they could read each other’s moods instantly.

Vixen rubbed a hand through her short red hair and smiled. “Yeah. I got a letter from Kurt this morning. He said he might get to come home on leave in a month or two. I know I shouldn’t get my hopes up, but I’ve been thinking about it all morning.” Vixen’s boyfriend, Kurt, was enlisted in the army and had been serving overseas for almost two years. Nobody had thought they could continue with their long-distance relationship, and then there were those who hadn’t approved of it in the first place. But the two of them seemed just as strong as ever.

“Isn’t he getting close to getting out permanently?” Venus had to smile at her friend’s hope. She’d seen the love they shared, and she secretly wanted that for herself one day. It definitely wouldn’t happen anytime soon, though.

Vixen shrugged. “Yeah, but I think he’s going to re-up. I wish he’d come home, but that’s mostly just me being selfish. I want him here for myself, but this is turning into his career. He has a job, a roof over his head, and plenty of adventure. It’s probably better for him to stay in, anyway.” The beatific look on her face faded into a frown.

“What is it?” Venus glanced up at the road, noting that they were almost to the meeting place for that evening’s mission. She didn’t even see why she and Vixen needed to come along, but her father had insisted. They still had a few minutes.

“It’s just that seeing Kurt in a position like that makes me think a lot about my own life. I could’ve made better choices. Maybe I should’ve done something like sign up with the military instead of with the Savage Skulls.”

Venus widened her eyes and clamped her lips together, hoping nobody in the front seat heard what she’d said. The music was pumping, and neither Hook nor Ink seemed to be paying any attention to them. They weren’t her father’s most important lackeys, and they’d been assigned to cart the women around because they weren’t good for much else, but Venus knew they’d take keen advantage of anything that might earn them Jet’s favor.

Vixen realized her error, but she didn’t apologize for it. Instead, she leaned closer to whisper in Venus’ ear. “I think we need to find a way out of this life. I’m tired of it. I know you have to be, too. We’re constantly watched, constantly controlled. We could run away, go to some other state. Hell, some other country! But you and I both deserve more than this, Venus.”

The idea was a tempting one, and Venus had to admit to herself that she’d had it before. But one quick glance at the two men in the front seat reminded her of exactly why she’d never dared to let it be anything more than an idea. What Vixen had said was true: every aspect of their lives was controlled. They could hardly take a piss without letting someone know. But that management of their lives was also what kept them safe from other gangs. There was no telling what Venus’ life would be like otherwise. Vixen deserved more of an answer, but all Venus did was shake her head.

There was disappointment in Vixen’s green eyes, but she nodded her understanding. Maybe they would talk later, or maybe they would never talk about this again. But there was always someone listening. They weren’t free women in many ways.

Venus turned to look out the window as they pulled into the parking lot. The low brick building on the edge of town had once been a grocery store, but it had long ago been abandoned once the center of the city’s commerce had moved to the other side of town. Weeds grew up through the cracked asphalt and clung to the side of the building. The window glass had cracked, and the layers of graffiti had no hope of ever being washed off the brick siding.

It was a typical place for a typical deal like this. Venus had b
een coming to abandoned warehouses and dilapidated homes for as long as she could remember. The other kids she’d gone to school with would point through the school bus windows at these buildings and whisper of them being haunted. Venus knew they were only haunted by the local gang members and the people they dealt with. It had made her feel better back then, but now, at twenty-six, it only made her feel worse.

She got out of the car, glad to stretch her legs even if the heat of the day hadn’t yet dissipated with the setting sun. Jet’s car and those of his lieutenants had pulled up just before them, and her father was already striding confidently toward the small gathering of men standing near the building. “Good evening, gentlemen.”

Venus stopped paying attention as Vixen stepped up next to her, thinking only of their short conversation. What would happen if Venus went to her father and told him she didn’t want to have anything to do with his gang anymore? It’d been a part of her life for as long as she could remember, and there was no way it could go over well. Venus knew she didn’t have a major part in the organization. Her father never listened to her opinions about anything or asked her to be involved in anything more than standing around and looking pretty. Really, it was a business partnership more than it was a father/daughter relationship. But that wouldn’t make it any easier if she tried to leave. There was no telling what kind of vengeance he would take out on her.

“Yeah, I don’t think that’s going to work.”

The sharp voice of the lead drug dealer brought Venus out of her reverie. She’d been so involved in her own problems that she’d been paying little attention to the group of men they were getting the sale from. She snapped up her head, noticing that the lead man wasn’t the guy they normally dealt with.

The way his hair was slicked back suggested it was styled like that because it was so coated with his own natural grease instead of being purposely done that way. Shitty tattoos stuck out of the cutoff sleeves of his T-shirt, and he snarled at Jet. “You think just because you do a lot of business with us that you can rip us off? That’s bullshit, and you know it.”

Jet stood before him, his legs straight and his shoulders stiff. Barely old enough to even be Venus’ father, he glared at the other man with the obsidian eyes he’d been named for. “If you have a problem with our deal, then I suggest you go back to Pedro. He’s the one that worked this transaction out in the first place, and he’s who we’ve always done business with. I’m not changing the terms just because you want to get a cut off the top.”

The dealer sniffed and glanced at his mates. “Pedro is the one who worked this out, man, and he sent me to enforce it. If you don’t like it, then you can get on down the road.”

Venus tensed. This was all supposed to be routine. The only reason Jet had even brought so many people with him was because the Savage Skulls made it their policy to always have a show of force. It kept them all safer, and it kept their enemies on their own territory. Every member of the Skulls had a gun with them, including Venus, but not because they imagined they’d need to use it. Looks were everything.

Jet’s shoulders stiffened. Venus knew he wasn’t going to just give up on this. Pedro’s men made the cleanest drugs on the market, and they went for a high price. If he didn’t buy, then someone else would. That meant someone else would be getting all the profit, and not the Skulls. That wouldn’t work. The Skulls relied on their income to keep their club members happy and working for them.

“All right,” he said after a long pause. “I’ll tell you what: you give us the goods for the normal price, and I’ll give you a little bonus.” He gestured slightly behind him.

The greasy man slid his eyes in the direction of Jet’s hand, landing on Venus.

Confused for a second, Venus realized what was happening just as Hook shoved her forward with the cold claw that was his hand. She stumbled on the uneven asphalt and let out a gasp of protest. “Now, hold on a second!”

“Oh, she’s nice.” Grease’s eyes trailed over her body as he took a step closer. “I think I could make good use of her.”

“Just for tonight,” Jet said. “We can make arrangements to get her back in the morning.”

The dealer nodded appreciatively. “I don’t have anything else going on, anyway. I think I could make this work out.”

“The hell you will!” Venus turned to run, though in the back of her mind she knew there was no place that would be safe. Panic overtook her body as Hook grabbed her bodily, whipped her around, and set her back on her feet in front of him, facing this man who was being promised favors on her behalf. His metallic hand dug into her arm as she struggled against him. He might be maimed, but he was still strong.

Venus felt a familiar tightness settle into her chest. This was exactly why Vixen wanted to get away from the Skulls, and it was exactly why she should want to get away from them, too. She knew, somewhere deep in her heart, that she deserved a better life than this. But how was she to get away and live on her own when she’d depended on Jet for everything?

Grease was frowning now. “She always this feisty?”

Jet glared at Venus. “She’ll settle down if she knows what’s good for her.”

  “No way!”

Venus turned to see Vixen pushing past Ink’s bulky arms and striding forward confidently. Her fists were balled at her sides, and her deep red hair was like a torch in the setting sun. “You can’t do this to her, Jet. I won’t stand for it!”

The hard lines of Jet’s jaw clenched in irritation. “I’ve only kept you around for her sake, you know. I suggest you shut up and get in the car, if you know what’s good for you.”

“I’m past caring what you think is good for me, you asshole!” Ink lunged at her, but Vixen slipped past him. She barreled toward Jet.

He stopped her progress with a quick draw of his gun. The dealers made instinctive reaches for their sidearms, but they left them in their holster when they saw that Jet’s pistol was aimed solely at Vixen’s chest, his aim steady. “I don’t tolerate this kind of behavior in my club, and you know it. This is your last warning.”

Venus didn’t like the tone in Jet’s voice. It sent a cold chill down her spine that made her shiver, and that in turn made Hook hold onto her even tighter. Her throat closed as she watched her best friend standing there, only a few feet in front of her, with her life hanging in the balance.

There were any number of things Vixen could’ve done at that moment, but what she chose to do was the last thing Venus would’ve expected. She reached for her waistband and whipped her gun out of its holster. She was quick, and she managed to get her aim almost up before Jet pulled the trigger. She never had a chance. Venus heard a scream as blood splattered across the asphalt and Vixen fell into a crumpled heap on top of it. It was only once Hook finally let her go that she realized the scream was coming from her own throat.

“No! No, no, no.” Venus helplessly gripped Vixen’s shoulders, not knowing what she could do. The bullet had gone straight through her skull. She lay lifeless on the ground. This wasn’t how it was supposed to be. “You’ve got to get her to a hospital,” she finally panted.

“I’m a little busy here,” Jet retorted. He turned to Grease. “I’m sorry about all this. Let’s forget any of it ever happened, and I’ll just pay you full price. I’ll take it out of someone else’s ass later.” He gestured for one of his lieutenants to hand over the money and for a different one to start loading the goods from Grease’s men.

Tears blurred Venus’ eyes. She desperately checked for signs of life, pressing her ear to Vixen’s chest to see if she still breathed, and put shaking fingers to her wrist, but she found nothing. Her tears leaked down onto the parking lot, mixing with Vixen’s blood.

Grease watched impatiently as the transaction was finished. His face had paled, and he hightailed it out of there as soon as they were finished, clearly wanting nothing to do with murder. Venus had thought he might try to hold Jet to his promise of a night with her, but the subsequent events
had clearly changed his mind.

When he was gone, Venus knew this was her best chance. She stood up, her legs barely holding her. “We’ve got to get her to a hospital,” she pleaded, stepping toward Jet. “Just let Hook drive us over there, and he can drop us off. I’ll be back as soon as they’re done.”

Jet gave a casual glance at Vixen. “No. I’ll have everything taken care of. Get in the car.”

“No!” She grabbed his arm, futilely hoping for some sort of action on his part. There had to be something he could do about this. “Please! This isn’t right! She was just trying to defend me.”

“That was her first mistake,” Jet said coldly as he jerked his arm out of her grasp and headed toward his car. “Now let’s go.”

Venus felt something harden inside her. She had tolerated so much as her father had risen in the ranks of the Savage Skulls and even as he led them. She’d sacrificed her entire life to what he wanted, and now she was left with her friend dead or dying on the ground and a group of men who didn’t give two shits. Her body acted before she had a chance to really think about it, and the next thing she knew, her own gun was pointing at the back of his head. “I said, let me get her to a hospital.”

When Jet turned around, his look was only an impatient one. “What? You think you’re going to kill me? Yeah right.”
